Once I looked over the options and decided to drop streaming Netflix
became cheaper for me too. I can think of a situation where I would
drop the discs and just go to streaming, which would be cheaper still,
but I can't think of where I would want two discs and streaming.

A friend called me yesterday asking advice on TV options. He told me
that Comcast charges him $170/month for hookups to three TVs (one HD)
and landline phone. DirecTV is offering him the TV hookups (no DVR)
for $57. And they're throwing in a year of Sunday Ticket. For his
phone, he has a cell phone from work and his bosses don't care about
using it for personal calls, so I told him he could either drop the
landline completely (I just read that 20% of households are cell only)
or get the cheapest plan from Verizon and make all his toll and long
distance calls from his cell phone. For TV I told him to call Dish
Network to see if they have a better offer and to call Comcast before
the satellite installer comes to see if the retention department can
make it worth his while to stay.
