Notre Dame can join whatever conference they want tomorrow. The question is
do they want to. ND values their football independence and if the Big East
conference can be saved then Notre Dame doesn't need to make a move.
Back to television, if Notre Dame football remains an afterthought in
college football, then the ratings will be down. If they become relevant
again, then the ratings will go up.
Like I said, they'll get their money. The question is who pays them.

This actually ties into the conference realignment talk going on right

(Which I'm surprised hasn't been mentioned much here as ESPN is a major
player in it)
Notre Dame will get their money whether it's NBC/Comcast, ESPN, Fox or
Turner. The only question is would they stay as an independent in
football
or join a conference.
The source that sent me to google a story on the Notre Dame TV deal
also recommended and article on rivals.com urging Notre Dame to join
the ACC asap. His point is that as conferences get bigger, teams have
less scheduling flexibility for non-conference games and that could
leave Notre Dame without any high profile national games (except USC)
after September. And if Notre Dame can't play ranked national teams,
then NBC will be taking a bath on their TV deal.
