There is a shuttle. There just happened to more people at the stop than the bus could handle, so I opted to walk up rather than wait the 15-20 minutes for the next one. I did get there before the next shuttle

I think Knott's Berry Farm isn't too far from Long Beach. I did not take the Universal Tour when I was there in October, and I would recommend skipping the Universal CityWalk. Universal and Hollywood Blvd. (Hollywood and Highland specifically) are one stop apart on the Metro. However, the walk from the Universal Metro to the complex is up a large hill.
