As a child, I recall Saturdays in the late mornings/early afternoons (just after Looney Tunes) watching Soul Train and American Bandstand. If we were daring, we'd watch Dance Fever and Solid Gold, though I think Solid Gold came on later in the day. Most of my students in their early 20s (mainly musicians, mainly African-American) thought all D.C. was was the guy who did the voice-over for Soul Train. They never experienced him as the show's host. They missed out. Best clip I could find online was an installment when Cornelius joined in the dance train itself. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lJ5iuWotw3M This was, in the words I once heard him use, one funky brother, and I'm pissed as hell that he offed himself. -- Kevin M.
