Both of Bob's posts came through to me...
Worth noting is that the sitcom, crappy ratings that it has, is outdrawing 
Chelsea Lately.  So there's a decent chance some people watching the sitcom 
aren't familiar with the talk show or the books.

Mark Jeffries, to Joe Hass: 
Outside of the fact that it's not funny, they don't even 
bother trying to keep with the premise.  Since the show is supposedly based on 
Handler's books about her earlier years before she became a standup and Prepon 
is supposed to be playing her at that age, it seems to me that the show should 
be set in the 90s.  However, there are so many contemporary references in 
episodes that it seems to be set in an alternate universe where Handler doesn't 
have a late-night talk show on E!  Are they assuming that the audience has 
never 
read any of Handler's books?

The commenter to this page, and her goilfriend, didn't, tho judging 
from their employer they might not have enough time for reading:
