The thing that stands out to me about this is that there is no effort to show a different genre any more, at least on the networks. A number of years ago Mark Burnett made the Rockstar series on CBS, which was a music competition to find a vocalist to front a rock band. I would think that a producer who wants to differentiate his/her show would make it a competition for a new soul or jazz or country singer.
