This is one event that I would be happy to see go away. I think the correspondents should still have a dinner and if the president still attends I understand that it will air on C-SPAN. But the pressure related to the standup is unnatural. It has become a no-win gig for the comic, damned if he attacks the politicians and damned if he doesn't talk truth to power. If there's outrage from claims that the comic stepped over the line then the event organizing committee is accused of not vetting the comic and with everything else they have to manage it's too much pressure on them. And if the comic gets timid and bombs then the committee will have to answer for that as well. And now there are calls for a boycott or to have the comic fired before the dinner based on his previous routines. Louis CK has enough of a devoted following already that he can sell out theaters and make a mint from a direct-to-download show. He doesn't need the headache and neither does any comic who isn't desperate for national exposure. -- TV or Not TV .... The Smartest (TV) People!
