I think I am up to the 7th episode now (hard to tell, as the episode numbering seems to be off, at least on my Comcast listings, which maybe got confused by the two multi-episode showings). I had the exact same initial reaction as you, and I am still waiting to see some signs that the show will catch fire. For now I mostly put it on when I am working on something and don't want to have to pay too close attention. For my money, Alias and Lost both just completely kicked ass in their first episodes, grabbing you by the throat and demanding that they be watched. They both lost a lot of that quality (though I liked both better and longer than most, and still think Lost paid itself off pretty well). Alcatraz has been more like Fringe was at first - there were detectable signs of something intriguing going on, but it lacked the zing factor - a lot of which at first seemed to be the fault of the female lead. Fringe found itself near the end of season 1, and matured into a really interesting show, so I think there is at least some hope that Alcatraz will develop along those lines (though, unfortunately, Alcatraz does not seem to have the same kind of interesting and deep supporting cast to mine that made Fringe always seem like a good bet to get better). The female lead in Alcatraz is going to have to get a lot more interesting, pretty damn fast, to save this show. P.S. As those of us who live in the area never tire of advising visiting friends - of all the stereotypical tourist attractions in the country (not including national parks), probably none deliver as well as Alcatraz. If you get a chance to take the tour, grab it. -- TV or Not TV .... The Smartest (TV) People! You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "TV or Not TV" group.
