I'll thrown in some further perspective here.Back around Thanksgiving, a
local Kansas City weatherman killed himself. The morning after (when he
wasn't on the air), the FOX affiliate where he worked said nothing of his
absence, and even though the station's competitors knew what was going on,
at the FOX affiliate's request, they mentioned nothing of it until a
statement was issued by Channel 4. Actually, the NBC affiliate (41) did run
with the story, and actually went into the cause thereof:

news covers its own.

WDAF (FOX) simply stated he 'passed away'. It didn't take a rocket
scientist to figure out he killed himself. Some things you can read into
without a word being said and be correct.

Romenesko's piece is up: it's a rehash of what everyone has said/posted.

Steve: I did not know that (or if I did, I didn't retain it), and it
makes sense.

While Barnhart is away for whatever reason, I do question his
effective erasure from the Star's Web presence, even going so far as
to disabling the Television anchor link at the top of the
Entertainment overview page. I don't expect the paper to go beyond a
simple acknowledgement ("Aaron Barnhart is away" isn't *that* hard to
write), but the full radio silence does tend to lead to an environment
similar to this.

TV Newser also links to the Romenesko piece, with a little background but no
new information:

I suspect we are all worried that AB has had a recurrence of his cancer. I
have certainly been hoping for the best, and remembering him in our prayers
at the hourse. Probably not much good in just speculating, but looking
forward to hearing how he is doing, and hope he knows he has a lot of
support here.
