The weird thing is, she's done this before. Repeatedly. Once during her
days with Regis she asked James Taylor how his brother,
singer-songwriter Alex Taylor, was doing. James replied, "Not too well, I'm
afraid - Alex passed away a few years ago."
And I saw her once when Nathan Lane was filling in for Regis; Nathan's
mother had died about a month earlier, but he hadn't made it public yet. So
when KL asked how his mother was doing (they had apparently discussed her
on the air previously), Nathan said, "Um, actually, I apologize, I should
have told you this before the show..." It actually ended up being a very
nice segment, with Nathan telling some sweet and funny stories (Nathan said
he began his eulogy with the words "This proves that my mother will do
anything to get me back in church"), but it had a very awkward beginning.

Some people never learn, I guess.
