The Royal Observatory is an excellent suggestion. However you're right that
Greenwich Park could be busy. Definitely avoid during the three day
eventing competition as that's held on the park and will be all ticket.

Another bonus is that it's also free. There's also a non free planetarium
there too.

The lakes are fantastic, and another closer to home place I'd recommend is
Bath. Although I'm biased as I used to live there.
