"Yes" to both questions. I found my current job at http://www.usajobs.gov and really I lucked out getting it for many reasons. Not to scare you, but I went about 26 months without a job after I graduated law school in May 2005. Now, we were ok because my wife was working, but I was out of school loan deferments and we'd had our daughter in December 2006. Being "ok" wasn't going to last much longer. Then some random day in late June I got a phone call from the head of the office asking if I was still looking for a job and he offered it to me right then, no interview. It was like God knew it was time to ease off on the 46-year-old fatboy because I know I was hurting myself when I interviewed. Then when I started working, I soon found that there was no better job for my personality and background, at least no better job that doesn't exist in a fantasy world where I play video games and read comic books for a living, but I digress. Apply and see what happens. I will say that there might be a long time between applying and being contacted. When I received the phone call I didn't remember applying, but I was applying for so much that everything blurred together. I wish you luck and you find something sooner than later.
