Two notable things about this to me First: I've always maintained the structure of many '80s TV mystery shows like "Murder She Wrote" and "Diagnosis Murder" actually owe more to the Brown series of books than to earlier shows in the genre. Sobol created a short, procedural way of problem/solution that was both simplistic and easy to mimic.
Second: Even though Sobol didn't earn boatloads of cash and never reaped the benefits of a film or TV franchise, the final line in his obit is, "His family has asked that donations in his memory be made to The New York Public Library at . Check donations can be mailed to The New York Public Library, 476 Fifth Avenue, Room M-6, New York, NY 10018, payable to The New York Public Library." If I was employed, I'd seriously cut a check. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/07/16/donald-sobol-dead-encyclopedia-brown_n_1676665.html?utm_hp_ref=fb&src=sp&comm_ref=false -- Kevin M.
