Many years ago I attended a taping of Whose Line Is It Anyway (it was still the UK version but they decided, I think in partnership with Comedy Central, to produce some episodes in Hollywood). It was off-the-charts fun. They didn't tape episodes, per se. They taped a bunch of introductions, then a bunch of conclusions, then just kept playing "games" for a few hours. More than once the show's producer would emerge from the control room and storm onto the set in the middle of a sketch and say something along the lines of, "Oh come on, you all know that we can't air any of this and you're wasting everyone's time so knock it off." The audience would shout boo, but a new game would then commence. Digital editing was in its infancy in those days and whoever edited that series deserved double the going rate of pay.
