The Sound is trying to capture the old spirit of radio, which has its perks, but to really be a part of a community it would have to have a foot in the present, too. A lot of ex KMET staffers work at The Sound, and I rejoiced when they did their "KMET Finally A Friday" promotional event (even bringing back Dr. Demento) a few years ago. But they have no commitment to young artists -- no drive to light more fires, merely keep the old one burning. The Sound is now my station of choice if I have to listen to what now gets called terrestrial radio in LA, but frankly I'm more likely to select a podcast or music on any of my mobile devices.
