I'm not sure what promo for The Choir you saw, but here's how stuff tends to happen in the UK (pretty much the same across all channels).
If the new show/series starts more than a week off, then it'll simply be "coming soon", "coming this autumn" or "coming in October" etc. It's only when it gets a week out that the actual day/time starts to appear. I think that's for two reasons: 1. I suspect few Brits are busily marking their calendars to ensure that they keep Wednesdays free for their exciting sounding new series. 2. Most PVRs - particularly the dominant Sky+ - only have a 7 day EPG. So I can only program it from a week out. The same goes for weekly TV guides like the Radio Times (it's old, and it's mostly a TV listings mag) or the guides in the weekend papers. It's worth noting that we do have "green button" ability on some PVRs. If I watch Sky TV or BBC TV promos on the Sky+ platform, a green dot appears on screen synced with the promo that allows me to press a button and add that show to my schedule, setting series link if I want. But that system is not across all platforms. It's also worth noting that schedules aren't set in stone as far ahead in the UK as they are for the US. So on Saturday nights for example, there's regular tinkering with the start times of the big reality shows: X Factor on ITV1 and Strictly (aka Dancing with the Stars) on BBC1. So while the exact date of the start of X Factor might be known, the time is subject to change.
