As a devoted listener of Christmas music (I listen to nothing else from
Thanksgiving through Christmas Day), the state of Christmas music on the
radio is appalling. Admittedly, I had to rebuild my iTunes Library a few
months ago, so my count of Christmas songs in my collection is down a bit,
but I still own over 1,000. And I have a Christmas Favorites playlist with
more than 250 songs, which is seemingly 200 more than KOST 103.5 plays here
in LA.

Back when we had a big band/swing AM radio station in Los Angeles, they
would awesomely play all the Christmas tunes by the Rat Pack, Crosby, Cole,
Torme, Ella, and even Aretha. But that format has ceased to be. And back
when we had a weekend blues show (down from six hours two days a week to a
single two our shift), we had a station playing Armstrong, King, Clapton,
and more. Those were the days, when we had actual variety in the second
biggest radio market in the nation.

There are some good new albums out this year and a few good ones from last
year that financial conditions are preventing me from purchasing. This is
admittedly a tough year for me to get in the spirit, but I'm doing my best
through the music I have.
