Wow - that was a great piece, thanks for posting it! It is funny to
suddenly read on this list and elsewhere so many other people are into this
- I kind of fell into it half-assed and resentful that I was losing the
Ticket, and my experience has been that I was the only one watching it, let
alone enjoying it so much.

Part of the enjoyment is just seeing someone who really cares about what he
is doing, and trying his best to do it well, and mostly succeeding. This is
not all that common an experience while watching television, which often
feels like it is using the approach common to many of my students ("tell me
what is the very least I have to do to reach a satisfactory grade and I
will try to do at least that well much of the time").
