Thinking a bit more about the subject, it occurs to me that I can name
some early Survivor winners, but none from other shows of its ilk or
from more recent Survivor seasons. Again, I watched none of them, but
Survivor was ubiquitous enough early on ("Did you see or touch any
monkeys?") that I know that Richard Hatch was the naked guy who went
to jail for tax evasion. It may well be that winners of the early
breakout seasons of these shows enjoyed an advantage that winners in a
more cluttered landscape don't. Melissa's point about musicians
finding the proper material (or, I suppose, people from other kinds of
