Thanks for posting that!

As I think I've mentioned, one of Tom Lennon's aunts is a former colleague
and was a next-door office neighbor of mine for many years. I know she'd
like to see the tribute, and I forwarded it to her.

For those who haven't seen it, Tom Lennon from "Reno 911" wrote a very sweet
article about why Huell Howser matters

As Dave said, I've had a lot of fun making fun of Huell over the years, but
I still watched his show more than a few times. He introduced me to the
Winchester House, and to the back side of the island of Catalina. He also
got permission to climb inside the giant chandelier hanging inside the
Shrine Auditorium, something I'd have to wait a decade to do myself (without
permission). He taught me which food in the LA Farmer's Market was worth
sampling. And he did it all while maintaining a gentle, Fred Rogers-like
spirit.

This has been confirmed by KCET, his longtime TV home. He passed away

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Huell Howser, best known as longtime host of PBS
TV series "California's Gold," died last night of natural causes. He
was 67.

"KCET regrets to inform you that Huell Howser passed away last night,"
KCET said in a statement. "We are saddened by the loss. KCET.org will
be launching a page later today where Huell fans can share their
favorite memories of him."

The Tennessee native moved to Los Angeles in 1981 and reported for
KCBS-TV. After briefly serving as a weekend host for "Entertainment
Tonight" in the 1980s, he joined KCET as the host of "California's
Gold," a show that highlighted towns, landmarks and events throughout
California.

When he retired in November after 17 years on the show, there were
rumors of his ill health.
