The absolutist in me wishes Lindsey Turrentine (the author of the second link Wesley posted above and the editor-in-chief of CNET) had resigned, because this truly was a Pandora's Box-level breach of journalistic ethics by CBS. But I'm enough of a realist to appreciate her decision not to. Near the end of the piece, Ms Turrentine wrote: "But I wish I could have overridden the decision not to reveal that Dish had won the vote in the trailer. For that I apologize to my staff and to CNET readers." In one I light I see it as "We should have told CBS that we'll withdraw the award, but we will not simply repeat the corporate boilerplate on this. We'll identify that Hopper won but CBS told us we couldn't give them the award, and CBS can do with us what they will.". But I can also read it as "We should've put up a third line in the sand, but given that we folded on the first two, we probably would've folded on this one, too." It seems unclear to me.
