In the aftermath of the Prop 8 debacle here in California a lot of people in the LGBT community blamed the African-American and Hispanic communities, but the evidence for that has been mixed. One problem is the confounding variable of age. If, for example, older AA and Hispanic adults were more likely to vote than in the White and Asian population, it would look like ethnicity was a significant factor when it really would have been age. Some academic studies have found AA and Hispanics to be more negative about gay marriage, others have failed to find this. As Wesley notes, it does seem clear that, whatever was true before, once President Obama came out squarely in favor of gay marriage the AA community became unambiguously in favor of it as well - somewhere in the high 50s to low 60s percent. -- -- TV or Not TV ....
