I don't think this last point is particularly accurate. President Obama
just gave a speech about it this week, and they do have a bill making its
way through the channels, pretty much on the schedule they set at the start
of the year. The problem is not that "the politicians have forgotten" - it
is more like the problem is the politicians have not forgotten, and the
ones who control the House and the keys to the filibuster in the Senate are
determined to let as little happen as possible. Even so, the chances are
not bad that they will get something done on background checks and
ammunition clips, and at least our senior Senator has not given up on
the assault weapons ban (and maybe Reid has a trick or two still up his
sleeve on that).
