I don't think that it's clear whether there is any political bias in broad
left/right terms here. In general, it's media outlets like the Daily Mail
that particularly have a bee in their bonnet about the BBC. It's strange,
because I'm certain that the average Daily Mail reader watches an awful lot
of BBC programming. In a separate issue, someone I know well has documented
an example of the kind of thing the Mail can get up to, surrounding the
recent death of Margaret Thatcher:

I would guess, but in no way be certain, that a number of the people
filming these clips, do indeed have a television, and therefore are
breaking the law. How that can be proved a separate matter. I imagine
similar things go on with other taxes local and national.

What I would say is that some of the people featured don't seem to be
particularly pleasant. I imagine it's one thing dealing with a nasty debt
collector, but broadly speaking these people seemed quite reasonable. The
paedophile reference certainly refers to the Jimmy Savile scandal.

There are some odd loopholes surrounding the BBC licence fee which do need
addressing in a digital age. As it stands, I don't need a licence to watch
catch-up programming via the iPlayer. But I *do* need a licence to watch
live programming via the iPlayer! Certainly amongst the young/student age
group, it's now not unusual for people not to own a television set but
watch all their TV online. So this begins to become a problem in terms of
revenue collection. I suspect changes may be coming...
