I did not know he worked at Rolling Stone (when was that?). I do know that
he is married to Sheri Annis, who is associated with a particularly nasty
brand of stealth conservative Republican politics in California. She worked
on controversial (and successful propositions to eliminate or greatly
curtail bilingual education and affirmative action in the state. She
worked on Arnold's campaign, but that really makes her a Pete Wilson
Republican (Pete Wilson is the former two-term Republican Governor here
that is basically responsible for the near extinction of the Republican
Party in this state).

Of course a man's politics do not have to be the same as his wife's (my
wife is pretty much a-political, which is the opposite of my political
orientation), and it is not true that strong political convictions makes
someone biased or unreliable as a journalist. But I don't see anything in
Kurtz' background that would make him distasteful to Fox News (despite the
potshots that folks like O'Reilly have taken at him over the years).

Krutz's contract with CNN apparently expires at the end of June, which I
guess explains why CNN, unlike the Daily Beast, decided to give Howie a
more graceful exit after his series of mistakes capped by the Jason Collins
incident. They could have fired his ass, but instead let him ride out the
last few months of his contract, but I suspect, despite
the disingenuous tone of Kurtz' statement confirming the change, that there
has never been a snowballs's chance in hell of Howie continuing at CNN.
