By acquiring the stations of Local TV LLC (the company founded by Randy Michaels, the man who almost ran the Tribune Co. into the ground) the Trib is now the nation's largest TV station group with 42 stations--Local was built around acquisitions from the New York Times Co., who wanted to get out of TV, and Fox, who wanted to jettison their one-station markets to focus on their duopolies (Tribune will have more Fox affils than anyone else):
