While it lacks a certain amount of polish, it also lacks the smarm I associate with later Tonight Show Leno. Whomever advises him to not incorporate his affection for cars into The Tonight Show (assuming that's the case) is probably doing him a disservice. I'm not advocating turning the program into a car show. But having the occasional car segment wouldn't have to be niche, and could resonate with the audience in a different way from Leno's 'safe' style.
