According to Carter, one mothers group -- "Every Child By Two" - did weigh
in.

As I posted on FB, I'd like to see scientific organizations like AAAS and
the National Academies speak up about the irresponsibility of ABC's
decision. But that's never going to happen.

Barbara Walters announced it at the beginning of today's (Monday)

I believe Kevin alluded earlier in this thread to McCarthy's advocacy for
the discredited claim that vaccination causes autism (and associated claims
that chelation and other forms of quackery are effective treatments of
autism. This is actually pretty serious - in an age when an old southern
woman can lose a tv show because she admitted to calling black people
niggers a few times in her life, it does seem odd that a woman can get a
show after encouraging public behavior that will, without doubt, increase
disease in children and lead broken-hearted parents to waste energy and
money on treatments for their autistic children that will not work, and may
harm them. At the very least I would like to think that the producers have
added something to her contract prohibiting her from trying to use her
platform on the show to advocate for her dangerous views.

[Note: I was already married in the early 90s, so I have no history of
fantasizing about that era's Playboy Centerfolds, and I did not watch MTV;
so I have no real history with McCarthy, and only vaguely know of her
pop-culture footprint outside of her quackery].

So I see Kevin and I are not the only ones whose main reaction to The View
adding McCarthy was concern about her dangerous advocacy of quack science
(e.g.

e-on-the-view_b188998).

I am not one to get involved in casual boycotts (and I have been boycotting
The View since it started anyway), but this is one case where I would like
to see a group of mothers put some pressure on ABC or its advertisers. At
the very least we should get some assurance from ABC that McCarthy will not
be allowed to use this program to push her views on inoculations and Autism.
