It's great when singers write their own material. But it makes no sense to assume that singers must write their own material, because almost no one possesses both talents.
For example, it's absurd for David Foster to encourage a 12-year-old Jackie Evancho to write her own material. Just plain silly. But that's the state of the business these days.
