You're spot on. I genuinely like a well done awards show and am a fan of NPH's work on and off the awards stage but last night was flat. One of the last winners nailed it as "the most depressing Emmys ever" after five celebrity obits, two tributes to the same dead writer, plus an in memoriam reel that had a lot of good people in it. The show started flat with the "talking" TV bit that felt like something Billy Crystal did 20 years ago then the Former Host Fight (in which only Kevin Spacey's bit made me laugh) but no musical number until the middle? They needed that energy from the beginning and sorely lacked it all night. Oh, and Bob Newhart is still good in anything. -- Ed Dravecky III http://www.fencon.org/ -- -- TV or Not TV ....
