because the underlying issue is too serious and underdiscussed to "earn"
the right to make a joke (which, interestingly, is the same reason I
generally didn't laugh when people talk about the sequester "not making a
difference" or when people making global warming weather jokes when it gets
cold/hot). It's not that you *can't* make jokes about it: they just better
be about the underlying problem/issue and not a gross oversimplification.

(Yes, I'm aware I'm explaining humor, which kills it. Sorry 'bout that.)
