He played under Bo Schembechler during the glorious 1968 season that ended with the massive upset of Ohio Season, 13 years with the St Louis Cardinals, and a 30-year broadcast career between CBS and ABC. He's in the NFL Hall of Fame as both a player and a broadcaster.
Dierdorf gets mocked a bit for his style, but I'd definitely consider him one of the better #2 men in the sport. He is also Exhibit A of what football will do to a man: he barely walks even with a cane, he freely admits he has memory issues.
