It was the next to last clue in Double Jeopardy, which guaranteed Steven would get the second Daily Double.
The triple stumper in Final Jeopardy was one of those great teaser clues that went right over everybody's head. 1990 was mine (and Maura's) junior/senior year in high school, so it should've been in our wheelhouse. By the way: the manner in which Mr Trebek teased his ruling out nearly made me want to punch the screen. Maura told me she was playing to beat Steven and felt confident on the category. As she said, "I only missed one clue the whole game, and it just happened to be the biggest one." She will not be listening to Wilson Phillips for the rest of her life. It's worth noting that, when I ran the suggested wagers through J-Archive, this is what they said for Maura: You're faced with a legitimate choice in strategy. You can either choose to > cover Scott, hoping that you give the correct response and Steven doesn't, > in which case you'll want to wager $8,001 to cover Scott's doubled score, > but no more than $15,400 if you want to top Steven on a Triple Stumper; or > bet up to $3,799 and win if both Steven and Scott miss Final. As I just wrote on Facebook: "It's been 30 hours, but I'm still trying to come to grips with the idea that some doofus who answered 'Pearl Jam' to a Pop Music Final Jeopardy clue (and was almost mocked by Alex Trebek for doing so) somehow beat my friend."
