I've met Pauley Perrette twice, both times in church, and interacted with
her a bit on Twitter. Mostly I find myself RTing (retweeting, for the
non-Twitter inclined) her posts because I think she is an amazing person,
full of life and that sort of upbeat energy normally reserved for
cheerleaders and marketing executives. But ever since Cote left NCIS, she
and the rest of the cast (and every fan-maintained Twitter and social media
outlet) have been slammed with negative fan reaction. Opinions are fine,
but people have been cruel in ascribing blame and attacking remaining cast
members. Today Pauley had enough. I believe CBS pays her to promote things
like the Grammys on her Twitter, but today she said goodbye to social media
as something to do for fun, because for her it clearly isn't fun anymore.
>From my admittedly limited experience, Pauley is -- if possible -- kinder
and more genial than her character Abby, so for her to reach a breaking
point is really saying something.

Diane Neal, one of NCIS's regular ensemble weighed in as well.

I haven't been critical of Cote's decision to leave, but the teenage girl
they appear to have chosen to replace her exemplifies why network TV is on
the decline. Nevertheless, such decisions are hardly something one could
blame or credit the other cast members with. People, myself included, like
that people on TV shows are making themselves more accessible on social
media, but apparently we still have to find that line which fans ought not
cross when it comes to the way they voice their opinions. There is probably
a lesson to be learned in this somewhere for fans, showrunners, and talent
alike, but I'm not sure what it is yet. All I know is angry fans
misdirected their anger, and it hurt someone that didn't seem to have
anything to do with their reasons for being angry.
