One of the treasures my stepfather has in his basement is an old playlist
*book* for W4 back when it was a rock station in the early 1970s. The book
was in alphabetical order by song title, and each song had a sheet of
paper. When a DJ would play a song, he would circle the date to indicate it
was played that day. That did two things: allowed the PD (my stepdad) to
see what was being played and what wasn't and gave the other jocks a heads
up if a song had been played already that day (or how long ago it had last
played).
