Two reasons for the change, probably: (1) Clay's version isn't about battling anorexia, and (2) it's a man singing, not a woman. The interesting question for me (as PGage suggests), is would Natalie, a bible-thumping Christian I suspect, have agreed to let Clay record the song if she knew that he would use it as a coming-out song? He recorded it in early 2008 and came out publically in September 2008.
