Thanks for letting me know my input is appreciated!

Had to do some research.

Original song lyrics:

http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/nataliegrant/therealme.html

The Bridge was changed:

Wonderful, beautiful is what you see
When you look at me
You're turning the tattered fabric of my life into
A perfect tapestry
I just wanna be me

Also, his recorded version left off the last three lines (although he did
sing those lines the third and last time he performed the song live):

And you love me just as I am
Wonderful, beautiful is what you see
When you look at me

But that particular website shows the same lyrics for Clay's version, which
is not the case. This YouTube includes the lyrics:

It's a great song for struggling, gay Christians, I suppose.

Two reasons for the change, probably: (1) Clay's version isn't about
battling anorexia, and (2) it's a man singing, not a woman.

The interesting question for me (as PGage suggests), is would Natalie, a
bible-thumping Christian I suspect, have agreed to let Clay record the song
if she knew that he would use it as a coming-out song? He recorded it in
early 2008 and came out publically in September 2008.

A little trivia that will interest no one:

You Know Who recorded a song by Natalie Grant called "The Real Me." At his
request, she changed a few words for his recording. Apparently, she wrote
the song about her battle with anorexia. For him, it's about being gay it's
assumed. (He recorded it before he came out publically.)

Its more than interesting. Assuming she understood the word change was to
reflect on his sexual orientation, it removes the stick from her ass that
her comments about the Grammy's suggested was permanently lodged there, and
makes her more of a mensch. Do you remember what the original words were,
and then what they were changed to?
