I have a technical question relating to Fallon's intro.

NBC has made a big deal of promoting the show's new "moon" logo. But when
the Spike Lee-directed intro ran, I couldn't help but notice that the moon
logo was partially covered by the "TV-14 L" ratings bug in the upper corner
of the screen. (That bug came on the screen the moment the show started and
stayed on for twenty seconds.)

I'm sure it's something Lee and the show's staff never even thought of
while they were shooting it. So I thought, well, that's a glitch they can
fix - on the second night, I'm sure they'll delay the bug for 15 seconds so
that the logo they've worked so hard to develop can appear the way they
want it. But no, the same thing happened on the second night.

My question is - *can* they delay it for 15 seconds? Or are they stuck with
it the way it is? Is there some sort of FCC regulation saying the bug has
to appear the instant the show starts?

One other observation: I always thought one of Conan's mistakes on his
Tonight Show was to make his theme song faster and more frantic. Amping
things up is not a good idea at 11:30. Fallon and The Roots have gone in
the opposite direction, and I think that's wise.

As for Fallon, well, I've been a big fan for some time - his 12:30 show has
been the only one I've watched every night for the past year or more. I
thought he seemed nervous on the first night (though not as nervous as on
his "Late Night" debut), but his second night was closer in tone to his
previous show, and I think he'll settle in pretty quickly. I also agree
with Mark Evanier's observation (at
http://www.newsfromme.com/2014/02/18/watching-fallons-first-tonight-show/)
that the Will Smith interview had too much fawning on both sides, and that
Fallon needs to put a lid on that quickly. The Jerry Seinfeld interview on
night two had a bit of that, but it also had some VERY funny lines from
Seinfeld that made it much more palatable.
