RT, the Russian-government funded chain of networks (well, all of Russia's
networks are government funded/controlled or allowed on Russian-funded
cable TV after bribes and kickbacks) has been surreal viewing for the last
few weeks. Most of the coverage was a cross between "Baghdad Bob" (press
agent to Saddam Hussein) and the guy in the "Naked Gun" movies who stands
in front of a massive explosion shouting "there's nothing to see here...
please disperse!" Since they stream all their channels free over the web, I
have been checking in since the tram/bus bombing before the Olympics,
through the Olympics, and now as events unfold in Ukraine.

In the last day or so, two of their journalists spoke out against Russia
and Putin live on the air. First was reporter Abby Martin who was
apparently annoyed that she wasn't allowed to develop her own contacts or
follow her own leads. So far she has not been fired. The second, Liz Wahl,
actually resigned on the air, stating she was descended from people who
fled their homeland due to events not unlike what is happening in the
Ukraine, and her conscience prevented her from staying with a network
funded by a government who would carry out such atrocities in modern times.

It is an interesting move by the two women, and the aftermath will be more
interesting. So far, Larry King (probably the best known on-air talent at
RT) hasn't commented publicly about any of it. Since we don't have US state
media, we don't really have a comparison to be made here. But I will say
the two women both exhibited more balls than most of the male talking heads
in America.
