Thanks Stan. That Steve Allen clip interested me too, and I stumbled upon
it by accident. Jay Leno did sometimes roam the halls with a camera, though
no musical numbers. When Howie Mandel had his talk show in Carson's old
studio, he did a sh*t-ton of stuff in the halls and in the other studios
(it's how I ended up on cameras almost weekly on his show... he always
seemed to be shooting when I was leading tours). As I think of Howie, I
can't help but sort of draw a comparison to Jimmy Fallon in one respect. I
maintain the reason Howie failed as a talk show host was because his
syndicator, Paramount, wanted his show to be a clone of Rosie O'Donnell's
then hugely popular talk show. Two problems were that Howie isn't Rosie,
and Rosie already had her own series. When Jack Parr took over Tonight Show
hosting duties from Steve Allen, he did a very different show. When Johnny
Carson took over from Jack, his show was also different. Both Jay and Conan
tried to mimic Johnny's format. If Fallon is to succeed at all as host...
no, he can succeed being mediocre... if Fallon wants someone like me to
enjoy him as host of the Tonight Show, he'd do well to do be unique and try
new things. But I've never seen anything unique from him -- quite the
contrary, I've seen him steal bits from others.

Back to the world of Burbank and local goings-on, one of the KNBC people
posted some pics of the new Studio 10 and newsroom. Too bad they don't have
a budget big enough to hire enough people to fill the place and provide
comprehensive local coverage of breaking events. Oh well, as long as they
still televise car chases.

A photo I can't share publicly is supposedly the last photo taken in the
old studio. It is amusing, and will probably be leaked eventually (it's too
funny not to be leaked). But I won't be the one to leak it.
