The gifted actor was known as much for his stormy private life as for his 
triumphs on stage, screen and television--as for TV, he starred in five 
series, none of them particularly successful, was offered the role of 
Archie Bunker but turned it down, won an Emmy for the TV film "Bill" and 
was nominated for two other Emmys and would appear on almost any talk or

I would expect TCM announcing a tribute marathon presently--since his 
series weren't particularly successful, it will be interesting to see if 
any of the classic TV channels will be able to do a tribute marathon.
