Third time around in the States for "Neighbours"--it was tested in NY and LA in the late 80s (along with "Desperate Women," an Americanization of original producer Grundy's "Prisoner Cell Block H") and bombed. Oxygen back when Oprah and Gerry Laybourne were still involved tried about ten years ago briefly. Aussie soaps have had a hard time of it in the States--after the initial ratings spikes, "Prisoner" struck out once the episodes with Frankie Doyle, TV's first out lesbian, were aired, "Home and Away" barely lasted a year on the first incarnation of FX--excuse me, fX, and Norman Lear wanted to syndicate "The Sullivans" in the U.S. and got no takers--the series finally aired years later on the non-evangelical religious channel VISN (which, in many strange turns of events, is now the Hallmark Channel).
