I imagine that this isn't really costing Hulu a great deal since the
programme's costs are already covered by Australia, and particularly the
British sales. So even allowing for a subtle resetting of the storylines to
let new viewers in, the market for the show is limited and even a very
modest fee from Hulu makes sense.

Because Hulu/Netflix/Amazon don't really have to worry about ratings,
there's an interesting model here that could mean that some very niche
overseas programming could be sold to on-demand services for very modest
returns. A few extra dollars for a show that was never going to be sold to
a network, and a few viewers for whom Hulu or whoever suddenly become
essential. I know The Long Tail has been proved wrong in some cases, but
there is some truth in it.

I know it's going off-air soon, but it would have cemented by subscription
to whichever streaming service in the UK had offered The Colbert Report,
because nobody offers it here (OK - I can *buy* it on iTunes).
