My best guess - since NBC doesn't exactly have 'staff announcers' anymore - is that Steve Higgins (former SNL writer, now Fallon's sideman on "Tonight") fills in temporarily while Lorne finds a suitable replacement voice. After all, Higgins is in the building and has a good understanding of what the SNL open should sound like.
