The Simpsons is only being nominated in the animated category which 
sometimes is considered ghetto-ization by those who make the cartoons. If 
you want to bemoan the hardships facing the current crop of sitcom writers, 
the main ones would be their struggle to come up with innovative new shows 
and writing scripts that don't seem like tired retreads of old concepts and 
gags. And those few who do (see Armando Ianucci) sometimes get nominated.
