It's not that you can't put a channel together, even though sports like
NFL, NHL or F1 all at least have annual seasons to refresh the content,
rather than waiting two years before you get anything new that's truly
Olympian. But it's just that I can't find it any way a compelling viewing
option. Let's face it, people watch many Olympic sports only *because* it's
the Olympics.

I would imagine that getting rights will be difficult. Given the amount NBC
in particular pays (and it dwarfs the rest of the world), they must have
those rights - even outside Games periods - locked up.

In terms of language - it can be done. Eurosport is a good example of that.
By avoiding on-screen interviews to a large extent, and captions, you do
everything in voiceover. But that's fine for sports commentaries, it's less
easy for anything else.

Getting carriage is an interesting question. I don't suppose the channel
will get much, if anything, in distribution revenue. Capacity is less of an
issue in digital systems, but there's still a question of how it's funded,
how advertising is sold (regional would be my guess - that's the way a
channel like CNN International is sold), and so on.

In the end, I'll be amazed if it's anything other than a white elephant.
