I am really glad to hear that things are looking up, and that you have
found ways to be happier (giving up Jon Stewart is a tough prescription,
but if it works for you it is worth it).

One would not have had to be a fortune teller to predict the rape
allegations about Bill Cosby a year ago, since those have been around for a
long time. One would have had to be prescient to predict the combination of
circumstances that led to those allegations receiving renewed public
attention. This is similar I guess to the issue of police violence. A
minority (but an intolerably high minority) of police officers have been
using excessive force disproportionately against black and Hispanic men for
a very long time - how would one have predicted a year ago that 2014 was
going to be a year in which this received high profile attention?

Predicting even the short term future is difficult - if I were going to
make beginning of the year predictions about 2015, I would look for a
couple of long term trends that have been under the radar for a long time,
but for which there is a chance some unpredictable spark or two might flash
to the top of the general public's awareness.
