I will be interested in who they pick, and no doubt will sample her or him.
But the Comedy Central line that TDS is a franchise and will continue with
different hosts is a canard. More than Johnny at the Tonight Show, (or Dave
with either his NBC or CBS shows), Jon Stewart *is* TDS - or at least, what
has made TDS must-see TV. Without him, TDS will at best be just another
funny program on CC. I'm sure the Midnight show there is often funny, but I
almost never watch it. As much as I liked Wilmore on TDS, I already have
started skipping 2 or 3 of his episodes each week - and that is with the
half hour after TDS still part of my automatic DVR subscription from the
old TDS/CR Comedy Hour. At this point in my life I am not a comedy junkie
who has to watch every average or better comedy program on television. I
watched CR, and TDS, because they are extra special (as is the Oliver show
on HBO). If they pull some funny guy or gal off of the Youtube who makes
the young folks laugh (which I think is almost certainly what they should
do), I don't have much confidence that will become the kind of program that
will resonate much with me. I will have to concentrate on nightly Colbert
and weekly Oliver.
