They didn’t do gay jokes back in the 1970s. Felix was just assumed to be
straight.

Of course, it’s been a long time since I’ve seen the series, so my memory could
be faulty. But it does contain one of my all time favorite sitcom episodes –
the one where Oscar and Felix win a car and find it impossible to find a
parking space for it in New York City.

The pilot is a free download on iTunes so I caught it.

I don't have as vivid a memory of the original as I should since I was a fan of
it, but it didn't rerun nearly as much as Happy Days or other sitcoms of that
ilk. For those with a better memory than me, were there as many gay jokes in
reference to Felix's neatness/uptightness in the original? I don't recall them
in the original but I could be mistaken. I would expect more homosexual
references in the original series (when frankly it was more socially
acceptable) and was somewhat off-put by their inclusion in the pilot. I don't
think they necessarily crossed any lines... I just thought that stereotype had
been milked for all the humor it could by 2015. To me, many of the jokes in the
pilot weren't based on Felix acting uptight (or Oscar acting like a slob) as
much as they were about Felix acting stereotypically gay. Am I reading too much
into that?

Matthew Perry makes a really good Oscar.

The pair doesn't make for "The Odd Couple" yet. Seems like Matthew was writing
more for his strength than anything. But I'll give it a few episodes.

i just watched the pilot. Its a decent start and i look forward to watching a
few more. I would say "I have added a TiVo Season Pass" or "added it to my
DVR", but actually I have added it to SickBeard and downloading it regularly
now from USENET and I wait for it to show up in my Plex Media Server.
