Blackouts have slowed to a trickle because the NFL was trying to avoid the
Feds yanking them (as noted in the article, all the NFL has to do is either
redefine the criteria for a blackout, or get one of its sponsors or
affiliated organizations to buy enough tickets to meet the criteria). I
always think one reason blackouts have gone down is because Al Davis is
dead, and the NFL no longer gets their jollies blacking out his fans. The
arguments demonstrating that the blackout is unnecessary are self-evident
by now, and the NFL's continued resistance to legislation eliminating them
shows how what is most important to them is power and control.

I am less clear about the implications of streaming the Euro-game; the
article says that opens up a new revenue stream. Does that mean it will be
available for streaming, but only if we pay for it? Or will the NFL make
money from ads around and during the steam?
