Per this Vulture article, it's on a two-week tryout.  FWIW, I'm now curious
enough to check in on Late Night.

Part of the case advanced in the article is that for those who aren't taking
the shows virally, that is watching them live, the monologue serves as the
late-night equivalent of what used to be the first half hour of the morning
shows - news roundup.
I'm not sure.  Seth and Celebrity Double Dare Jimmy do pull a fair chunk of
their material from the news, Conan a little less so (IMO, of course).
Letterman Idolator Jimmy isn't so insistent on using news stories, and neither
is British Jimmy.  They all tend to use the funny/weird stories that serve as
radio show filler or Buzzfeed content for the monologue as well.

But I wouldn't go so far as the piece did in implying that the evergreen nature
of Pete Holmes' monologues (which were more of a break from the form than
Ferguson's) are why the show didn't break 100 episodes.

Seems like every new talk show has made this kind of statement, about "shaking
up" the monologue, but it never seems to actually come to fruition.

Coincidentally, just last night Seth Meyers ditched his stand-up monologue for
jokes told at the desk, Weekend Update-style. Will it last?
